BACKGROUND
Boston pianos are, in fact, Steinway pianos in every sense of the word - the original Steinway design, Steinway patents, and Steinway parts. What makes them Boston pianos? They are made in the Kawaii factory in Japan (as opposed to being made in New York in the States). Kawaii and Steinway pianos have always been two of my favorites (with Yahama edging in there somewhere for pop/rock styles), so accidentally discovering a hybrid of the two brands existed was a revelation.
I had no idea this was even a thing, but I immediately fell in love with this specific piano when shopping for a grand piano to record for Moss: Book II at the local Steinway shop. I was taken by its clean top-end sparkle, smooth mid-range, and impressive-but-not-too-boomy lows. The YouTube link to the OST below features this sampled soft piano throughout the entire track, and to me, it sits squarely next to all the other live piano tracks on the album without a second guess.
